Two generation house on a steep, shaded site with access via unimpressive battleaxe type of driveway does not sound too exciting. Story of the house only starts to unfold past the front door, where a generous top floor rumpus opens up to views into the reserve beyond; where large double height space including skylights opens up into the floor below.
Conceptually the house has been thought of as a journey between the front door and the garden - scaling the height difference of several storeys - with design features along the way to make the everyday life enjoyable.
She never liked cleaning the sink. It was beyond her comprehension how it got so dirty so quickly. It seemed that she was forced to clean it every other day. Even when she was extra careful to keep things clean and orderly, it still ended up looking like a mess in a couple of days. What she didn't know was there was a tiny creature living in it that didn't like things neat.
Whilst I have nurtured lovingly West st project since its conception, my work has been conducted as an employee and so the credit also goes to the whole team of Platform Architects, company holding all intellectual property rights of this design.
